Oral rehydration (ORS) for diarrhoea
In short: Diarrhoea takes water out of the body. ORS and zinc replace it and help a child recover.
What to do
- Give ORS after every loose stool.
- Give zinc tablets once a day for 10 days, as the health worker advises.
- Keep breastfeeding and giving food.
- Go to a health facility straight away if there is blood in the stool, the child cannot drink, or is very sleepy.
